RITA ROMÃO, ANDRÉ CHAVES AND JOSÉ KAETÉ

Creating the Papel & Caneta list is a year-long process that involves a lot of research and conversations. It has been happening this way since 2017, when the first list was released, as a way for the collective to shed light on narratives that are often forgotten by the media, festivals, and major awards. Behind the research process is André Chaves, the creator of Papel & Caneta, Rita Romão, a strategy leader who was born and raised in the Northeast of Brazil but currently works in São Paulo, and José Kaeté, a content creator who lives in Belém, Pará, and travels the world defending the Amazon and indigenous peoples.

Special Thanks

Papel & Caneta operates as a collective, meaning everything is possible through the collaboration and unity of various brands and individuals. The studio film was produced with the support of the production company Poliverso, and all the portraits were created by Breno da Matta.

This year's team also included two professionals who helped curate the names: Rita Romão and José Kaeté. Julio Almeida contributed to the creation of the website, while Thaisa Bianchi, Kayque, Allan and Cecília Vital handled the event production. Jon Leão and Kaique Chock were responsible for producing videos at Soho House. Our special guest, or "Voice of the Year," was Rafaela Pinah, who also appeared on the annual list in 2022.
